The most common maintenance on a chain scraper is tensioning of the drive chains. On older chain scrapers, the driveline consists in most cases of a roller chain that requires lubrication with oil or grease in the wall box. This oil often leaks into the basin and results in insufficient lubrication of the drive chain. Oil leakage also contaminates the process, which in turn impairs the treatment results at the treatment plant. Poor lubrication accelerates wear and shortens the service life of the driveline, which fails in the worst cases.
